**AWAKENINGS by Friction - [Alt]
A favorite fanfic talent returns with a fabulous new story set in the pre-third season days that finds the Amazons with a disconcerting mystery on their hands when they rescue their unconscious queen and a badly injured Warrior Princess from a pit only to discover that all signs point to a violent struggle having occurred between the two...including a troubling violation. Desperately in love with her partner, Gabrielle insists on standing vigil by the comatose warrior's side as she explains the circumstances that led to their injuries. What she reveals is an emotional story about a relationship in transition as two friends finally confront the deeper feelings between them and deal with the fears that have kept them from acting on those feelings. Complicating matters is the appearance on the scene of an old acquaintance of Xena's - a beautiful warlord and sworn enemy of the Amazons, who could turn out to be the bard's worst nightmare...and the warrior's last hope. Friction's interpretation of the Xena/Gab partnership is a marvelously compelling mixture of passion and tenderness and insecurities that will have you feeling their frustrations and joys right along with them. With a sense of uncertainty thrown in there to keep us guessing, the storyline will have you glued to that PAGE DOWN key. One cautionary note on this one - Friction's descriptive skills are in fine form here so stock up on that Amazon Ice >:) VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 86 pgs., 8/30/99

**CALLISTO'S ANTIDOTE by Friction -- [Alt]
Friction's second XWP fan fiction story is every bit as riveting as her first - a nail-biter that will grip you and wont let go! In the best tradition of hurt/comfort stories, it has Xena and Gabrielle facing the most desperate of situations as a deadly enemy returns to execute a heinous plan - a plan that while bringing warrior and bard together at last promises to separate them forever. Although in parts heart-wrenching, this is also a very tender first-time story that will enchant the romantic in us all. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! - 40 pgs., 11/12/97

**ENCHANTED AGAIN? by Friction -- [Alt]
Back in October 1997, this talented bard made her first appearance on the Web with a fantastic little story called THE ENCHANTMENT. Her second story CALLISTO'S ANTIDOTE is one of the most gripping and satisfying hurt/comfort stories I've ever read. Now with this third story, a sequel to THE ENCHANTMENT, Friction brings us yet another winner and solidifies her place among the best of the best in XWP fan fiction. ENCHANTED AGAIN? begins where the first story ended. Having acted on their feelings at last, Xena and Gabrielle are deliriously happy - giddy in love. It is a happiness that fires the bard's creative juices, motivating her to write a new story but before long some distressing news puts a damper on things, alerting them to a possible threat and distracting the usually suspicious Xena from other unforeseen developments. This story will keep you mesmerized from the first sentence to the last. The romance depicted between warrior and bard is one of the most tenderly romantic and passionate in recent fan fiction making this tale a sure favorite but one DEFINITELY to be avoided at those places of employment ;-) Intense, funny and poignant all at once, Friction's latest receives my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!! (Note: You might want to have plenty of flour and butter on hand before starting this story >:) - 44 pgs., 1/28/98

**ENCHANTMENT (THE) by Friction -- [Alt]
A fantastic debut for a new bard, this story begins with Xena and Gabrielle visiting the Amazons where Ephiny soon finds herself in the role of matchmaker - trying to get the warrior and the young Amazon queen to admit what seems very obvious to everyone else. Her efforts, however, are soon thwarted by a vengeful god obsessed with the Warrior Princess and more determined than ever to keep her from discovering the love a gentle bard holds for her. This is well-written, with some very tender moments, lots of emotion, a little angst and a ton of passion! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! [Do not miss the sequel ENCHANTED AGAIN?] - 36 pgs., 10/8/97

**FIRE AND ICE by Friction -- [Alt]
One good thing about this season guys is that it seems to have inspired some of the best uber-Xena fiction we've seen yet. Tonight we have yet another example of that in Friction's newest contribution - an outstanding story which should go right to the top of your MUST READ list. Set in the modern world, this is a story about two very different women - one trapped in an unfulfilling life, not sure what she's searching for - the other trapped in a nightmare, with no escape in sight. The two are drawn together on a fateful night when Danielle StaFord discovers an intruder in her uncle's home. In the weeks to come as the young woman remembers the masked thief's puzzling kindness, Alex Lord considers this herself - not certain what possessed her to leave a witness and unable to shake her lingering interest in that witness. Friction does a terrific job in slowly developing the relationship between these two uber characters, creating a rich dynamic between them that is compelling and believable. With some incredibly riveting scenes and those heart-stopping plot twists Friction loves to throw on her readers, this is the type of story that you will not be able to put down once you start reading. It is erotic, passionate, romantic, full of that angst we all love and just thoroughly entertaining. FIRE AND ICE receives my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION! - 94 pgs., 5/27/98

**SOMEWHERE IN TIME by Friction -- [Alt]
The recent explosion in outstanding uber fanfic continues with Friction's latest effort which in fact can probably be better classified as semi-uber, but which is certain to entice even more readers into this genre. Set just after the events in the episode RETURN OF CALLISTO, the story begins in Ancient Greece with Xena and Gabrielle both desperately regretting the distance between them...and very much misunderstanding the reasons for that distance. It is a situation that grows even more complicated when Gabrielle realizes she's pregnant. Assuming this means an end to her life with the Warrior Princess, the bard steels herself for the coming separation as they head for Amazonia. For her part, Xena is agonizing over that separation too - loving the bard with every bone in her body but certain that love is not returned. With the help of some very sneaky Amazons, the two eventually clear up that misunderstanding but it is a bittersweet victory in their struggle to be together as a cruel twist of fate drives them apart once again, forcing a desperate Xena to risk it all in a fantastic quest that will take her over two thousand years into the future, to a very different world and a soulmate with no memory of the bard she used to be...or the warrior she once loved. Friction gives us here a terrifically entertaining story which very effectively bridges the gap between traditional Xena/Gab fiction and the uber genre. Solidly based on love and brimming with a fierce passion, the relationship presented here has a timeless quality to it that is wonderfully appealing. Friction throws a lot of conflict and humor into the mix to emerge with an end product you should immediately put at the top of your MUST READ list. This one comes VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! - 125 pgs., 11/24/98

**WET DREAMS by Friction - [Alt]
One of my favorites returns with a novel that has instantly of my favorites :-) Hard to categorize, this latest gem from Friction is set in the classic XWP period...though it's also somewhat uberish. It's a romance, a mystery, and a coming-out story all wrapped up in a wonderful, touching, memorable package certain to enhance Friction's already WELL-deserved reputation as the author of some fanfic's most passionate moments. Friction aficionados will be particularly amused by the opening of this tale which is classic Friction in how it leads us one way only to pull us in a completely different direction later on. On their way to Poteidaia for Lila's wedding, Xena and Gabrielle are feeling restless - both distressed by dreams neither is willing to discuss. Uncomfortable with the bard's family and with her growing feelings for the young woman, Xena heads for Amphipolis, initiating a separation between the two that will eventually bring to ahead the emotional turmoil they're both in. In the weeks to come, as the warrior tackles a mysterious curse that seems to be plaguing the couples in her home town, Gabrielle struggles to understand the dreams that have taken over her nights and seem to haunt her every waking moment. Lost without her warrior and sensing, as in her childhood days, a keen difference between herself and others in her home village, the young bard embarks on a self-journey that will demand the greatest of courage as at long last she faces a very personal truth and reunited with Xena reaches for the one thing she knows will ever bring her real happiness. Together warrior and bard will fight a battle unlike any they've ever fought before, not against weapons but against misconceptions and prejudice. Friction delivers here a classic XWP story with all those elements that made us XWP fanfic addicts long ago - the angst of a relationship meant to be, the anguish of two hearts yearning for one another yet afraid, the excitement and humor of those first days in a romance. Exceptionally clever in how it throws a touch of the uber into the classic scenario, WET DREAMS is a beautifully written tale guaranteed to entertain you and stir...ALL sorts of feelings ;-) Grab some Amazon Ice, clear a couple of hours on your schedule and go ENJOY this fine story that gets my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION! - 248 pgs., 4/24/01
