THE BEAUTY IN THE BEAST: A XENAVERSE FAERY TALE by Nene Adams
The first in a series based on classic fairy tales, this new offering does indeed have that fairy tale flavor as Nene tells us the story of Xena - the Warrior Princess, known to some simply as the Beast who on a fateful night gets a visitation in her tent from a mysterious figure with red-gold hair and vibrant green eyes - a ghost whose purpose the Destroyer of Nation cannot fathom but who continues haunting her, warning her of choices she needs to make and of a future that could slip through her fingers. Original and clever, this is a MUST READ!
THE MIND OF LOVE by FreeBard
There's a sense of quiet melancholy throughout this vignette that has Xena suffering from nightmares and Gabrielle reflecting on her contributions to those nightmares. A moving piece, nicely written.
THE GHOST IN THE FOREST by Enjay
This extraordinary new story marks the debut on the Web of a new talent in Xena fanfic with a very distinctive, almost lyrical writing style that makes this tale a truly different reading experience. The basic premise has Xena and Gabrielle busy doing what they do - traversing the countryside having adventures and dealing with lowlifes when a god comes into the picture forcing a connection between them that allows Xena's worse fears to become reality. With their relationship seemingly shattered, the two must then struggle to try to understand what has happened and survive. Enjay uses a shifting point of view technique which is extremely effective in revealing emotions and perceptions. It provides a window into the psyche of the characters which makes their emotional journeys thoroughly fascinating. DO NOT MISS! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
THE HEALER by Tymedancer
Gut-wrenching, short story that has a healer attempting to soothe the broken heart of bard decimated by the loss of the warrior she adored. Spanning many years, this story's impact comes as much from that bard's pain as from the healer's noble dedication to the those in need of healing. A bittersweet read.
For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.
