Please make sure to read the EXPLANATORY NOTES before reading these reviews.
The file includes reviews of both uber-Xena and/or original fiction. It is a combined file of general and alternative stories. The alternative titles are designated as such with an [Alt] at the end of the title line.
Also, several of the uber stories deal with the characters of Mel Pappas and Janice Covington featured in the episode THE XENA SCROLLS. Mel/Janice stories are designated as such with a [M/J] at the end of the title line. You can also find them listed separately in the Mel/Janice Fan Fiction Reviews
**GASLIGHT SERIES by Nene Adams - [Alt] - Listed below are the entries in the series. Select each story for a description/review and the address. The stories should be read in the order listed here. In it's totality this is an exceptional series that receives my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!
AWARDS: Swollen Bud Award for "Constant Arousal In A Series" (March 23, 2000)
FANFIC ART: [Lina And Rhiannon] by Katrina (piece has no title)
GHOSTS FROM THE PAST by Watcher - [Alt]
A sequel to Watcher's uber-Xena story INTIMATE STRANGERS which has the ex-FBI agent Casey Bennett in a desperate race against time to try to save her beloved Beth from an enemy vent on revenge. A suspenseful read which will remind you in parts of the movie SILENCE OF THE LAMBS and the TV series PROFILER. - 3/23/98
GIRL'S NIGHT OUT by NinjaBabe - [M/J]
Mel and Janice enjoy a night out in New York. This story is just plain cute! It takes a few liberties with the timeline but hey - this is fan fiction - bards ARE allowed. - 9/15/97
**GOING HOME by LZClotho - [Alt, M/J]
Set shortly after the events in the episode THE XENA SCROLLS, LZClotho's first Mel/Janice story finds the new friends collaborating in an effort to get the scrolls, Xena's chakram and themselves out of Greece. With few options available, the two embark on a journey that will take them into a world filled with danger, betrayal, and espionage, strengthening a friendship that began long before either was born and reawakening the courage of an ancient warrior and bard. This veteran author once again delivers a well-written tale with solid characterizations and a rather original depiction of Mel in particular. DO NOT MISS! [See the sequel HOME FRONT] - 182 pgs., 7/18/99
[Palm Pilot version available at XENA FAN FICTION FOR THE PALM PILOT]
GRANDMOTHER by Jera
Bittersweet uber tale about a grandmother remembering a very special part of her past and an old promise kept at last. This one will pull on those heartstrings. - 2 pgs., 3/15/00
**GUN SHY by Lorelei (Lori L. Lake) - [Alt]
Officer Dez Reilly is the best cop in town, beautiful, serious and deadly. Jaylynn Savage is a promising rookie, having decided to join the force after seeing a certain tall, dark officer in action. Amidst the excitement of life on the beat and the dynamics of a police station, these two very different women grow to trust one another as a working partnership turns into friendship, and friendship starts to blossom into more. Acting as stumbling blocks along the way will be vengeful colleagues and dangerous criminals but perhaps the biggest obstacle of all will be a heart, once broken, that now remains just a bit...gun shy. Lorelei has crafted very solid characterizations for the leads here as well as a strong supporting cast. The story is well-paced with both the relationship and the conflicts evolving slowly. A very entertaining read that will keep you hitting that page-down key :) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! [See the sequel UNDER THE GUN] - 271 pgs., 6/20/99
